In a remarkable turn of events, Marco Raduano, a notorious figure on Europol’s list of Europe’s most wanted criminals, has been successfully apprehended in Corsica after executing a daring escape from a high-security prison in Sardinia. Raduano, a reputed boss of the Foggia crime syndicate, was serving a 24-year sentence for drug trafficking and various other crimes.
The dramatic escape, which took place in February last year, saw Raduano employing knotted bed sheets to scale down the prison walls, as depicted in gripping footage captured at the time. He managed to elude authorities until recently when he was tracked down and arrested in Corsica.
Gianluigi Troiano, Raduano’s close aide, was also detained in southern Spain as part of the coordinated effort by Italian authorities.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi commented on the significant capture, stating, “The carabinieri’s (police’s) capture abroad of two dangerous fugitives, Marco Raduano and his right-hand man, Gianluigi Troiano, represents another major blow to organized crime.”
The arrest unfolded in Aleria, where Raduano was apprehended while dining in a restaurant with a young woman. This latest development serves as a testament to the relentless efforts of international law enforcement agencies in curbing the activities of high-profile criminals across borders.
