Charles Muhangi Honored Posthumously with Lifetime Achievement Award at Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards
The late Charles Muhangi, a trailblazer in Ugandan motorsport, was posthumously awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award during the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards for September 2024. Muhangi, who passed away in 2018, made history as the only Ugandan to win the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) in 1999, a record that still stands today.
His widow, Petience Muhangi, graciously accepted the award on behalf of the family at a ceremony held on October 8, 2024, at Lazo Restaurant in Kololo. This recognition not only honors Muhangi’s extraordinary achievements in rally driving but also celebrates his enduring legacy in Uganda’s sports history.

Known affectionately as “Camavinga,” Assimwe scored in every match he played in September, including impressive performances against Mbale Heroes, Brightstars, and a brace against Maroons.
His scoring prowess extended to the Airtel Masaza Cup, where he netted two additional goals for Buwekula, making him a standout candidate for the award. His remarkable achievements outshined competitors Said Mayanja from KCCA FC and Enock Ssebagala from NEC FC.
In his acceptance speech, Assimwe emphasized teamwork, stating, “This honor is a reflection of our collective effort at Wakiso Giants. I dedicate this award to the Purple Sharks family.”

In the boxing category, Herbert Matovu was recognized as Boxer of the Month for his impressive first-round knockout against Tanzania’s Kheri Mbaruku in the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) regional title bout. The fight, held at YMCA on September 7, 2024, showcased Matovu’s power and skill, earning him the accolade over fellow contenders Ukasha Matovu and Owen Kibira.
Woodball: Isaac Ariho Leads Uganda Prisons to Championship Glory
Isaac Ariho claimed the Woodball Player of the Month title, leading Uganda Prisons to their third consecutive Woodball League championship. Ariho’s dominant performance in September included winning six of his seven matches, featuring a commanding 7-0 victory against Fred Turyakira and key wins against Simon Peter Otim and Delick Ankunda during the final tournament at Makerere University.
Ariho also excelled in doubles matches, teaming up with Abednego Okello and Isaac Nabugere to secure victories against formidable pairs from KIU and KU.
