Bishop Enos Kitto Kagodo Prohibits Promenade Parties in Church Schools

In response to growing concerns over disciplinary issues and misconduct, Bishop Enos Kitto Kagodo of Mukono Diocese has made the decision to prohibit promenade dances and parties in church schools. Citing reports of inappropriate behavior and drug abuse during such events, the bishop expressed deep-seated worries about their detrimental effects on students’ well-being and academic progress.

Promenade, a customary celebration for high school students, has faced criticism for fostering an environment conducive to misconduct and indiscipline. Bishop Kagodo, in a meeting with headteachers from church-owned schools across multiple districts, emphasized the need for stringent measures to uphold discipline and preserve the integrity of the learning environment.

The ban reflects Bishop Kagodo’s commitment to promoting values of discipline, responsibility, and moral conduct among students. With 270 church-owned schools under Mukono Diocese, the ban is expected to have a far-reaching impact on school policies and practices, fostering a culture of accountability and respect.

Susan Wamala Sserunkuuma, chairperson of the Mukono diocesan headteachers’ association, voiced support for Bishop Kagodo’s decision, highlighting the importance of maintaining standards of behavior in educational settings. She stressed the need for collective efforts from parents, teachers, and students to create a positive and conducive learning environment.

Recent incidents, including instances of extravagant displays and inappropriate conduct at promenade events, have underscored the urgency of addressing the issue. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, the State Minister for Higher Education, echoed these sentiments, urging schools to prioritize academic excellence and moral values.

By prohibiting promenade parties, Bishop Kagodo aims to instill discipline and promote a culture of integrity and respect in church schools. The ban underscores the bishop’s commitment to nurturing the holistic development of students and creating a safe and supportive learning environment for all.
