Saudi Surgeons Perform First Fully Robotic Heart Transplant

Saudi Arabia has reached a new milestone in medical science with the successful completion of the world’s first fully robotic heart transplant. The groundbreaking procedure was carried out on a 16-year-old patient at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center.

A team of highly skilled surgeons, led by the Head of Cardiac Surgery, performed the operation in just 2.5 hours. Prior to the surgery, the team conducted seven virtual practice sessions over three days to ensure flawless execution.

This innovative procedure utilized robotic technology, allowing surgeons to avoid an open-chest operation and perform the transplant with greater precision. The hospital noted that robotic-assisted surgery is expected to reduce recovery time, lower the risk of complications, and improve overall patient outcomes.

Doctors involved in the procedure expressed hope that this technological advancement will pave the way for less invasive heart surgeries in the future, enhancing the quality of life for heart transplant patients around the world.
